Help Centre: Getting Started, Solving and Billing

Short answers to the things people actually get stuck on. Anything not covered here goes to team@gauth.io.

Getting started

Type the problem into the box on the solver and send it. The answer streams back as numbered steps with a reason attached to each move, and the final answer sits in its own block at the bottom. You do not need an account for the first one.

Type as much of the question as you have. “Part (b) only” or “we have to use substitution, not parts” genuinely changes the answer you get back, because those constraints go to the model along with the problem.

How the free tier works

One full solution as a guest, then 3 a day once you have a free account, resetting at midnight UTC. Follow-ups never count. Gauth Plus removes the daily cap; the pricing page has the plans and what each one costs.

Uploading a photo

Use the image button beside the input, or paste a screenshot directly into the box. Images need to be under 4.5 MB.

Three things make a photo work. Get the entire question inside the frame, including the question number and any diagram it refers to — the model sees only what is in the image, and a figure on the previous page might as well not exist. Avoid glare and shadow across the working. And if the photo is one part of a multi-part question, crop to that part and type the previous answer alongside it, rather than sending the whole page and hoping the right part is picked up.

Asking follow-ups

Once an answer is on screen, keep typing in the same box. Questions like “why is step three valid?”, “what if the exponent were negative?” or “can you do this without the quotient rule?” are answered against the solution already in front of you, because the recent turns of the conversation are sent along as context.

Follow-ups need an account and never consume quota. Sending a brand new problem starts a fresh thread and does consume one.

Managing your subscription

Your account pageshows your plan, your renewal date, and how many free solutions are left today. Plus subscribers get a billing portal button there, which opens Stripe’s own portal — that is where you change a card, download invoices, switch plan, or cancel.

Cancelling keeps your access until the end of the period you have already paid for; it does not cut you off immediately. Payments and card details are handled entirely by Stripe, so we never see a card number. The billing terms are set out in full in the terms of service.

When a solution looks wrong

Assume it might be. Start by reading the justification on each step rather than the algebra: the failure is usually a step whose stated reason does not match what the line actually did. Then substitute the answer back into the original problem, which settles most equation questions in fifteen seconds.

If you still think it is wrong, say so in a follow-up and name the step. That often produces a corrected solution. If it does not, email the problem and the answer to team@gauth.io. The accuracy page covers the specific categories where solutions degrade and a longer checking routine worth learning anyway.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an account to use Gauth?
Not for your first solution. Open the solver, send a problem, and you get the full worked answer with no signup and no card. An account is needed after that, and for follow-up questions and saved history.
How many solutions do I get for free?
One as a guest, then 3 a day with a free account. Follow-up questions on an answer you already have are unlimited and free on every plan. Gauth Plus removes the daily limit entirely.
When does the daily limit reset?
At midnight UTC, not at midnight where you are. If you are in a timezone well ahead of or behind UTC, your reset will land at a fixed local time that is not midnight.
I solved one problem and now I am being asked to sign up. Why?
The free first solution is one per visitor, tracked by a cookie, with a further limit per network so it cannot be farmed by clearing cookies. Creating a free account takes a few seconds and moves that first solution into your history rather than losing it.
How do I sign in?
With an email address and password, or with Google. Both create the same kind of account. If you signed up with Google, use the Google button rather than a password reset.
What can I upload, and how big can it be?
Any common image format, up to 4.5 MB. Photos of a textbook page, a worksheet, or your own handwriting all work. Files that are not images — PDFs, documents, spreadsheets — are not supported.
Can I paste a screenshot instead of uploading a file?
Yes. Copy the image and paste it straight into the question box. It attaches the same way an uploaded file does, which is usually the fastest route for an online assignment.
Do follow-up questions use one of my daily solutions?
No. Follow-ups are free and unlimited on every plan, including the free plan. Only a new problem consumes a solution.
Where do my past solutions go?
Signed-in solutions are saved to your history automatically, so you can find them again before a test. Solutions you generated as a guest are moved into your history when you create an account with the same browser.
How do I cancel Gauth Plus?
Go to your account page and open the billing portal, which is run by Stripe. Cancel there and you keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for. No email to us is required.
What happens at the end of the 3-day trial?
The trial is on the monthly plan. If you do not cancel before it ends, the first monthly payment is taken and the subscription continues. Cancelling during the trial ends it with nothing charged.
Which subjects does Gauth handle?
Mathematics first — algebra, geometry, trigonometry, precalculus, calculus, statistics, and linear algebra — plus physics, chemistry, and other STEM homework. Word problems work as well as symbolic ones.
